Seattle Travel Guide

The travel bug is always real, especially during quarantine and the pandemic. With cancelled trip plans this summer it has felt like ages ago I was on a flight to a new destination. Two weeks before the quarantine in Chicago I was on a plane to and from Seattle. There was so much confusion and uncertainty when I got back that I never got to share the beauty of Seattle.

Usually my sister and I take our Spring break to the East Coast, which is crazy because you would think we would want to escape the cold Chicago weather. This year we decided to head west and visit rainy Seattle. Despite the rain, you are surrounded by beautiful mountain views and lush forestry.

WHERE WE STAYED – Hotel Theodore Seattle

The location in downtown Seattle was walking distance to everything and the room was the perfect size for such a short trip. Hotel Theodore had such a pretty little atrium with a calming environment in the middle of the hotel with ample of seating and fresh palms. Attached to Hotel Theodore is restaurant, Rider, with Pacific Northwest inspired cuisine. Every time we walked by it smelled to die for! Right off the lobby is Made, a coffee shop with a walk up window. I think my favorite part of the hotel was the Nespresso machine for our morning coffee while getting ready. I’m pretty sure we used all of the pods we were given! We also didn’t pack umbrellas but the hotel had us covered with complementary ones during our stay, which was an added bonus for the rainy days.

SIGHTSEEING

The Spheres: Open by reservation two Saturday’s a month, you can visit the gardens at the Amazon headquarters in Seattle. Otherwise there is a visitors portion anyone can go into and Willmott’s Ghost, a restaurant in the public side. The unique architecture is a must see!

Space Needle: Probably what most people think about when they hear “Seattle.” We were able to go on a sunny day, which is ideal for all the Seattle views.

Pike Place Market: You will most likely stop here multiple times during your trip. There are so many places to eat, drink, and take in all the sights and smells. If you are lucky, you will probably see the fishmongers throw some fish!

Gum Wall: Super gross if you think about how many people have chewed at put their gum on the wall! As a gum connoisseur, I loved it and of course had to chew and add a piece of my own.

Bainbridge Island: Living the Grey’s Anatomy life for a day. We took a quick ferry trip to Bainbridge and I think this was one of my favorite days because the scenery was gorgeous! It had such an outdoorsy and small town feel.

Kerry Park: Put your walking shoes on because it is quite the trek uphill. The view is completely worth it if you ask me just don’t ask my sister!

PLACES TO EAT/DRINK

Serious Pie and Biscuit: We stumbled across Serious Pie and Biscuit for a last minute brunch! Both of us ordered the baked eggs and biscuit, which did not disappoint!

Storyville Coffee: This was our first designated coffee stop and by far my favorite. The coffee was the freshest tasting coffee I’ve ever had and the pastries were so light and delicious in the best way! (Also cute view of Pike Place.

Beecher’s: What’s better than cheese? Literally nothing! This mac and cheese was out of this world and not to mention they make the cheese right in front of you.

Rachel’s Ginger Beer: Not real beer for the under 21’s! They had so many flavor options and it was a nice refreshing drink.

Tacos Chukis: We had to go for their famous cheap tacos at this hole in the wall restaurant. They are noted for their “Tacos Chukis,”(hence the name haha) which are pork tacos with a slice of grilled pineapple.

Shug’s: Such an old-school ice cream shop feel with creamy and delicious ice cream!

Biscuit Bitch: The line was out the door if that says anything about how good it was. My sister and I got separate grits and egg bowls with a biscuit and I’m pretty sure we could have shared them they were so filling, but nonetheless they were DELICIOUS!
