My First Apartment

I can’t believe I am a proud owner of my first apartment(or you can say proud renter)! This year I am living with 5 of my closest friends in a three flat and we have two of the three floors. It is basically like a house! We all have our own rooms and so much room to spread out around our apartment, although we always end up in our cozy living room (currently) watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Our apartment quickly became home and we put all the finishing touches on our place as we hope to spend the next two years here. So, naturally I had to really make my room cozy and put the “Victoria stamp” on it! I am excited to show you what I came up with this year and my thrifty finds to bring my whole bedroom together! You can find my tips for small space/dorm decorating here.

The Centerpiece

My sister found this target rug on sale for super cheap, so I centered the colors of my room around the rug. The rug does shed A LOT because it’s wool, so it has to be vacuumed pretty often. Other than the shedding it’s comfy to walk on and adds some color and comfort to my apartment bedroom!

Bedding

For my bedding, I wanted something neutral because my rug had lots of color. I ended up using a duvet cover I had bought a few years back from West Elm’s organic line. I never used it and it happened to be exactly what I was looking for. My throw pillow and blanket is what really ties my room together! I found the rust colored blanket on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and I’m so glad I picked it up because the color is sadly sold out. I was so excited when the blanket came in because it was a perfect match with the rug! The striped throw pillow was such a steal from World Market. They had a lot of their summer merchandise on sale, so I swiped this indoor/outdoor pillow that went with both the rug and the blanket! What are the odds?!

Decor

I’ve really been into the whole wicker look and Anthropologie “vibe,” so I knew I wanted to incorporate that somehow in my room. In the past, I have always done picture gallery walls, but I wanted something more simple yet chic. After a lot of Pinterest-ing I came across the idea of wicker baskets on an accent wall. I immediately fell in love with the idea and turned to thrifting for the baskets, which was SUPER successful. My mom and I made thrifting a reoccurring activity every week for apartment trinkets. There are so many different basket styles for a basket wall, so check out a local thrift store!

On my yearly trip to Ikea, I found this pendant light that I had the perfect place for. I decided to use the pendent as a “desk light,” which helped bring a statement piece into my room, yet saved precious space on my desk. Not to mention, the warm light of the Edison bulb makes for a cozy room.

I added little cork boards above my desk to add little things that inspire and motivate me!
Is it even Tor’s room without a plant or two?

Furniture

I wanted furniture for my room that had more character than a cookie cutter look. My aunt had a lot of furniture pieces she was going to donate, so I decided to keep her headboard, coatrack, and a few other pieces and give them a fresh look. With my dad’s help we lightly sanded and painted the coatrack using Rust-Oleum chalked paint. A little bit of paint goes a long way, so I was able to use the paint on the coat rack and the desk I had thrifted! I found my desk at a local thrift store and added the paint along with some new hardware.

Because of limited closet and room space for a dresser I opted for a clothing rack with a bottom shelf. I put my most worn jackets and seasonal pieces on the rack and added a basket to the bottom. The clothing rack is easy for grab and go and doubles as a drying rack for your laundry days!
