What to Pack for a Beach Vacation

One thing I look forward to every year is my family’s summer vacation. We always choose a location somewhere on the beach and this year we are traveling to Hawaii(here is last years trip)! I’ve created a list of all the necessities for a vacation near the beach and thought I’d share!

Clothes

The best part about traveling to warm weather is the little room clothes take up in a suitcase. I love having options, so over-packers like me thrive on all the additional room(extra room means extra options!). My go-to outfit for anywhere warm are dresses/rompers! They are easy to pack and take up even less room because you’re packing one item instead of 2 items(a top and bottom). I gravitate toward florals and stripes for all the beachy vibes haha. On the days when I’m not feeling a dress, a good pair of linen patterned pants or shorts are a go. But definitely dresses for the win!

Swimsuits

The essential for any beach vacation! I always go for floral/tropical patterns.

Hats

Emphasizing the “s” at the end because I always bring 2 hats with me(a little extra I know). The first hat is always a baseball cap. Baseball caps are great for wearing in the pool and ocean and will not loose shape in the water. It also stays on no problem for when you are jumping those big waves! The only damage to the hat is fading from the sun, but hey on the bright side it looks more vintage! The other hat is of course a floppy straw hat, which is great for the pool and those cute pics you are going to take! Both are great to bring but either one will keep the sun out of your eyes and prevent scalp burn.

TIP: My sister taught me this trick for packing a floppy hat. First, pack little clothing items like socks and underwear in the hat(this is so the top does not lose its shape) and then place that at the bottom of your empty suitcase. After that, you can pack all of your belongings around the hat. I find that the rolling method works best!

Sunscreen

This is probably a no brainer, but sometimes we forget the most obvious items. Don’t forget to pack sunscreen, especially for all of you with fair skin! Sunburn is not a joke! Also, if you are traveling to a buggy destination don’t forget bug spray.

Sunglasses

Talking about protecting your skin, protect your eyeballs too! Typically I bring a few pairs of sunglasses, such as a nicer pair for the pool and to wear out and about, a cheap pair for the ocean just in case they fall off and I won’t be heartbroken if I don’t see them again, and some fun pairs to spice up some pics!

Camera

Don’t forget to capture moments of your trip! I like the quality of the pictures and ability to edit raw photos, so I use a basic DSLR. Phone cameras work too and are easy to take with you on the go!

Would love to hear your favorite beach vacation item!
